Midweek Mancandy: Zac Efron

This morning, Internet-land woke up to some headlines about a red-band trailer featuring a certain former "High School Musical" star and his bare butt.

And while the movie, "That Awkward Moment," looks pretty terrible, there is a shot or two in the trailer that perfectly features just why our Midweek Mancandy for this week is ...

Zac Efron!

Efron was absolutely adorable in Disney's "High School Musical" franchise, where he played floppy-haired basketball star-turned-musical theater star Troy Bolton. He was also dorkily adorable as Link Larkin in "Hairspray." It was easy to see why tweens were crazed over him.

But then cutie wittle Zac-y grew up ... fast. In 2012, he starred in "The Lucky One," an absolutely terrible movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. (It was also the movie that inspired Jen to write this blog entry, "My Problem with Nicholas Sparks movies.") The only truly redeeming thing about that movie was that Efron looked amazing in the movie. There's a shower scene in that movie that, to steal a line from The Pop Tarts' Internet spirit guides, Tom & Lorenzo, had us fanning ourselves like Miss Celie in church. That boy has muscles in all the right places, but he also has a certain soft, sensuous air about him that makes him incredibly sexy.

Efron is a great example of a child star who grew up well. It's unfortunate that he had to go to rehab for a while, but if that disqualified someone from being a Midweek Mancandy recipient, there would be a lot fewer Midweek Mancandy men because everyone in Hollywood seems to go to rehab.

If you want to see the trailer, or at least the important bits of it, the best link is this slightly NSFW Buzzfeed article. The aforementioned butt shot goes by in a flash in the trailer, but the Buzzfeed link allows you to gaze for as long as you'd like at Efron's muscular hindquarters. Just saying. And then you'll truly be able to understand why he's our pick for this week's Midweek Mancandy!
